Our passion
Vidda
We are Norwegians. We walk over mountains and hills, through forests, around fjords to our cabins. When we walk we think, mostly about the things we will do when we are done walking. Like eating. And drinking.
So it was on one of our treks through the mountains; surrounded by Norway’s majestic beauty, we saw herbs, spices, berries and lots of ice.
Thirsty friends on a mountain walk. Chatting about gin. Carrying ice from a frozen lake. Mixing drinks at the cabin. This was the inspiration for Vidda, our interpretation of a traditional London dry gin infused with natural botanical from Norway’s wilderness.
Fjæra rosé gin
To any Norwegian the word Fjæra means a lot more: it is the smell of summer and the bright Nordic evenings, inner peace, and harmony. Just like that evening we were sitting on the pier and waiting for the barbecue to get hot. To pass the time we discussed what the perfect gin for this moment might be. “What if we aged it in St Emilion red wine casks for a while,” suggested one of us. “And give it some extra fruity flavours from real raspberries,” added another. “We could call it Fjæra Rosé Gin,” concluded the third.
Marka bitter
Marka bitter was the first product that we launched and is the expression of the soul of OHD.
We got our inspiration from the old Norwegian traditions of making spirits and beer flavoured with bog myrtle. Which is foraged in the forest surrounding Oslo bearing the same name as the bitter. We wanted to capture the smells and flavours of the forest when it is in full bloom during summer. Marka is cask aged and sweetened with local honey.
Norwegian wood birch vodka
We are Norwegians. We walk over mountains and hills, through forests, around fjords to our cabins. When we walk we think, mostly about the things we will do when we are done walking. Like eating. And drinking.
On these treks we have seen the pure nature. Drank the clean water straight from the stream. And met the people full of character. Just how we like our spirits. We have also seen birch everywhere. The tree we use to decorate with on our national holiday May 17th. We use it to light our fires. Its literally what Norway is built with and Norwegian woods are filled with. Even when we look out of the distillery it is the first thing we see.
BLANK AKEVITT
A take on akevitt so traditional that it’s modern.
For almost 500 years we have been making aquavit or akevitt, as it written in Norwegian. The name comes from the Latin aqua vita, the water of life. Originally this was thought of as a medicine. So when we wanted to do a modern take on how akevitt was made hundreds of years ago, we started with the traditional medicinal plants of the north.
OHD AKEVITT
Our barrel aged akevitt is a modern take on aquavit based on old traditions. We used historical Norwegian medicinal plants to makes this round and complex aquavit. Flowers from the meadow and wild, minty herbs are perfectly complimented by ageing in bourbon barrels.
